On this piece

A Short & Mason 'Tycos' aneroid barometer, London, dated 1912 by the case-back stamp. The eight-inch silvered dial has been lightly retoned to lift a century of oxidation without touching the maker's script. The aneroid movement was disassembled, cleaned, and calibrated in 2022 against a National Physical Laboratory-traceable reference and now tracks pressure within a millibar across its full range.

Short & Mason supplied instruments to the Admiralty and to Scott's Terra Nova expedition; this is the domestic model, but built to the same standard. Set-hand adjusts from the bezel.

Mounted in a plain quarter-sawn oak wall case with a brass suspension ring, honest and unfussy.
